External Wall Fire Exposure Assessment
CFD-based fire risk exposure assessment of a residential building to evaluate external fire spread and support façade fire safety considerations.
Fire Risk Exposure Assessment – Cavalier House, Ealing
Thermal-Flow Consultants carried out a fire risk exposure assessment to evaluate the potential impact of an external fire on a multi-storey residential building.
The Challenge
The project required assessment of external fire spread and thermal exposure from a fire scenario, with particular focus on the potential impact on the building external wall/façade and upper storeys.
Understanding fire behaviour and heat exposure in this context required detailed analysis beyond standard prescriptive approaches
Our Approach
Fire modelling was undertaken to simulate fire development and assess thermal conditions around the building. The analysis focused on:
External fire spread and plume behaviour
Heat exposure to the façade and upper levels
Potential impact on building elements and openings
Interaction between fire source and building geometry
Outcome
Quantified fire exposure levels to the façade
Improved understanding of external fire risk
Technical evidence to support fire safety assessment and design decisions
