Fire Strategy

Fire strategy development for a multi-storey residential building, including means of escape analysis, compartmentation design, and compliance with Approved Document B and BS 9991.

Fire Strategy Development

Thermal-Flow Consultants developed a fire strategy for a multi-storey residential building to support compliance with Approved Document B (Volume 1) and BS 9991.

The layout presented constraints including extended travel distances, complex escape routes, and coordination of compartmentation and fire door requirements. These required a structured assessment beyond standard prescriptive guidance.

A detailed review of the architectural design was undertaken to develop a clear and compliant fire strategy, including:

  • Assessment of means of escape and travel distances

  • Definition of compartmentation and fire door strategy (FD30)

  • Integration of fire detection and alarm systems

  • Preparation of annotated fire strategy drawings

A compliant and practical fire strategy was delivered, providing clear escape provisions, defined fire protection measures, and supporting Building Control approval.
